Dennis Mahony began painting around 20 years ago after moving from Albany, New York to South Florida. Within a couple of years, the self-taught artist emerged on to the art scene showing, selling and winning awards. This was, and still is, his incentive to continue to produce his colorful oil paintings. Mahony is a realist artist working occasionally with pastel but favors oil. He paints landscapes, florals, and wildlife, with birds being his ideal subject. In 1994 Mahony moved back to Albany.
When working on a painting, he derives much creativity from his imagination while using photographs he has taken on field trips as references. Mahony says that "painting wildlife and natural landscapes keeps me in tune with nature and the outdoors. I always loved camping in the woods and still wonder at the beauty of nature as I travel on my field trips."
Mahony is a past president of the Palm City Art Association in Palm City Florida and is a member of the Southern Vermont Art Association, and member and past gallery director of the Local Color Art Gallery in Latham, New York where he has been one of the top selling artists for the past several years.
